Where to buy Cannabis seeds in Connecticut

The last decade has seen a number of changes in Connecticut cannabis law as the state moves to keep pace with the rapidly expanding marijuana landscape emerging in the U.S in the 21st century. While neighbouring states Massachusetts and Vermont have already legalized both recreational and medical cannabis, the state of Connecticut has been a little slower on the uptake.

In this article, we take a closer look at cannabis law in Connecticut with respect to usage, possession and cultivation.

Cannabis Law in Connecticut

Cannabis laws in Connecticut began to change in 2011 when Governor Dannel Malloy first signed legislation that would decriminalise cannabis possession in the state.

While full legality has yet to be achieved, the governor signalled the states intention to develop a fairer more legitimate cannabis market for Connecticut´s citizens.

“Let me make it clear—we are legalizing the use of marijuana. There is no question that the state’s criminal justice resources could be more effectively utilized for convicting, incarcerating and supervising violent and more serious offenders,” said Malloy.

However, despite plenty of discussion, Connecticut has yet to give the green light to a fully legalized and regulated market place.

Is Medical Cannabis legal in Connecticut?

Yes! – Following the decriminalisation bill of 2011, Connecticut moved to legalize medical cannabis programs in 2012.

Under the legislation, patients with a physician’s recommendation can obtain medical marijuana products from officially licensed dispensaries. Patients can possess up to 2.5 ounces (56.7 grams) per month.

Can I Grow Marijuana in Connecticut?

Unfortunately, despite the legalization of medical cannabis, home cultivation of marijuana plants remains prohibited in Connecticut for both recreational and medical usage.

While plans to legalize recreational usage have been long discussed, this year´s cancelled legislative session, unfortunately, prevented the General Assembly from voting on many important issues in 2020, including the potential to make Connecticut the 12th state to legalise the usage and sale of recreational cannabis.

Indeed, it was reported in March of this year that the governor had thrown his full weight behind the push to legalise cannabis in the state with a regulated marijuana market being predicted for the summer of 2022.

Growing marijuana seeds in Connecticut remains prohibited although changes in cannabis legislation are expected. Until then individuals can legally keep ungerminated seeds as souvenirs.
