How to make cannabis infused chocolate

So that’s it. Summer is all but gone for most of us. Sun, sand and sea are set to be replaced by cold, rain and wind.

Ok, so now that you’re feeling a bit blue, what better way to cheer yourself up on a cold winter day than a delicious mug of cannabis-infused hot chocolate! (you see what we did there?).

The cannabis plant really is tremendously versatile and cooking with cannabis has become much more common in recent years. While everyone has heard of cannabis brownies, there are some really innovative and fantastic ways to cook with cannabis, including our cannabis hot chocolate recipe.

There is really nothing quite like the taste of a warm cup of hot cocoa, and hot chocolate is actually a particularly good way to consume cannabis. With our delicious cannabis hot chocolate recipe, you are guaranteed to feel blissful and truly relaxed.

For those that don’t enjoy the taste of cannabis, a delicious hot chocolate mix is an excellent way to consume it in a truly pleasurable way. The rich chocolate taste helps to mask the sometimes earthy taste offered up by the cannabis plant.

More importantly (as all good Cannabis connoisseurs know) THC, the main compound in cannabis responsible for the high, is fat-soluble. THC molecules bind with fat, making them more easily absorbed by your body. So, milk makes an excellent base for cannabis infusions.

How to make cannabis infused hot chocolate?

The same rules of thumb go for drinks as for other cannabis-infused edibles: Start slowly, and be patient!

If you are new to edibles keep the dose low; over time you can predict with more confidence how much cannabis you need to achieve the desired effect. If you’re a medical user looking for new ways to consume medicinal cannabis, you can build up the dose over time to suit your particular needs.

The effects of the cannabis plant when consumed in food take longer to kick-in, but last longer and produce a more consistent high.

Once consumed, an excellent cannabis-infused drink will take on average between 45 minutes to 2 hours to take effect, depending on your tolerance level. Dosing edibles can be tricky, but you certainly won’t need as much in an edible as you would typically consume when smoking or vaping.

It is essential to be patient with cannabis edibles and to understand your tolerance level fully. The effects will kick in, but the time for each person can vary substantially. Don’t go making yourself another cup because you´re worried it’s not having any effect. This is the best way to ensure a really bad cannabis experience.

So sit back (after following the recipe of course), get comfortable, maybe enjoy a little bit of Netflix (4-hour binge-fest) and enjoy this delicious hot chocolate mix: The ideal solution If you’re looking for a bit of a pick-me-up on a cold winter day.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 heaped teaspoons of good quality cocoa powder, 70% solids or above (white chocolate cocoa powder is also available)
  • 1.5 – 2 cups whole milk (you will lose some volume in the cooking).
  • Pinch of vanilla extract (optional)
  • A drop of maple syrup (optional)
  • One heaped teaspoon of honey or brown sugar – to taste.
  • 0.15g -0.20g of good quality cannabis, ground. (This dose is pretty good for cannabis regulars. You can, of course, go up or down from here. If it’s your first time with cannabis edibles, you might want to start with 0.05g. Regular or medical users may wish to increase their dosage over time.

Method of making cannabis infused hot chocolate

Warm the milk in a medium saucepan, and dissolve the cocoa in it until smooth. Add your ground up bud and simmer on low heat for 45 minutes to an hour. If you have very finely ground up cannabis flowers, then you can drink it along with the rest however if you aren’t too keen on the texture, strain the plant extract out with a sieve before drinking.

Optional Extras

Adding a pinch of cinnamon, cardamon or a drop of good vanilla extract to your hot chocolate can make it that bit more exotic. And, yes, you can add whipped cream or marshmallows but you do run the risk of eating the entire packet! Check this page with Cannabis restaurants.
