5 ways to use your already vaped buds

In an age where recycling is becoming more critical than ever, you might want to take a good look at your vaping habits. Most people don’t realize that the leftovers from vaping, otherwise called Already Vaped Buds, have a wide range of other uses. Here are some pro-tips for recycling your already vaped buds

I am talking about the leftovers from vaping cannabis flowers, that means it is not combusted. Usable AVB ‘already vaped bud’ needs to be brown, not black/burned, as by that point most beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes have gone up in smoke.

This is what your AVB should look like; A nice brown, tobacco-like hue. If it's black, it's wack.

To be on the safe side, the ideal temperature use your vape pen on your buds lies somewhere between 180 to 200 degrees Celsius. It should be on this relatively low heat as temperatures above that will cause most of the dry herb to burn up, rendering it useless.

Keep in mind: You’re going to use your cannabis vaporizers to vape a lot of buds before you have enough AVB to actually reuse. AVB retains, on average, about 20 to 40% of the active substances in cannabis after first time consumption. Which means you’ll need about two to three times more already vaped bud as opposed to using pristine, green weed for edibles. So, you might want to gather some glass jars next to your portable vaporizer to store all that leftover weed.

An added bonus of using AVB is that the psychoactive cannabinoids are already activated (decarboxylated), so if you are going to use the AVB for cooking, you can skip that part of the process (i.e. sticking your green bud in the oven) to speed things up.

Cannabis oil

The oil extracted from cannabis has many medical marijuana properties and is an ideal way to administer cannabinoids to patients who do not want to inhale. Cannabis oil is fairly easy to make at home, for example, by an alcohol extraction method. Before you try this technique, however, please take the necessary safety precautions.

Cannabis butter

Another, non-flammable way to make use of your vape pen leftovers is to make cannabis butter with your AVB. The process is as easy as it is to make cannabis-coconut oil and it can be used in so many ways. Think AVB peanut butter or why not try baking with AVB? AVB brownies! Just make sure you label your cannabis edibles in a way that it’s clear they contain THC and store them so kids and pets cannot reach them.

Cannabis coconut oil or olive oil

The same method that is used to turn AVB into cannabis butter can also be applied to cooking oils, by infusing the cannabinoids into coconut or olive oil instead of butter. Not only is it safer and easier to make than alcohol extraction, but it is also very versatile. It can be used for cooking, mixing into drinks or smoothies, you can apply it to your skin or put it into AVB cannacaps to make your own standardized medicine.

Put your AVB in a pepper mill

A simple but effective way to spice up your dish is to fill a pepper mill with your AVB. Just keep a third pepper mill on the dinner table at all times, and you can easily serve every meal with a cannabis twist. Keep in mind though that cannabinoids only bind to fatty substances, like those in butter, cheese or certain meat and fish. You can consume AVB sprinkled on food it will give your dishes a lovely, extra nutty or smoked flavor.

Water curing AVB

Yet, for all the added flavor AVB can provide, some people might not like the nutty or smoked taste of AVB. For those who want the beneficial effect of the cannabinoids but not the palate, you can always try water curing your AVB. It’s a fairly simple process that will get rid of most (but not all) of the AVB flavor, without decreasing its potency.

Bonus tip: Try smoking AVB on those 04:00 am nights

Perhaps you’re at a party or on the last stretch of a marathon gaming session. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you really need that last hit of relaxation, but there are no fresh buds to be found, it’s a good thing to know you can always whip out your stash of AVB. As mentioned before in this article, 20 to 40% of the psychoactive compound remaining THC is still in there. So, if you are in a pinch, just fill up a bowl or roll a joint with AVB. It might not taste as good as fresh flowers, but it will do the job for sure.
