CBD, also known as cannabidiol CBD, is a compound of the cannabis plant that has recently taken the world by storm because of its significant potential medicinal value.

In 2019, CBD consumption has gone off the charts. In just a few short years, CBD has emerged from relative obscurity into a billion-dollar industry. Thanks to this explosion in the market, CBD is now being consumed in multiple forms like CBD paste, CBD drops, CBD capsules, CBD tinctures, and so much more.

Indeed, it would appear that CBD is almost everywhere now. From CBD edibles to CBD water; it seems like people can´t get enough products containing CBD in their lives! Did you hear about the CBD bath bomb or CBD for pets?

CBD belongs to a class of unique class of chemicals called cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis and hemp plant. When consumed, cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system to cause a number of physiological effects. Among more than 100 cannabinoids identified, CBD is arguably now the most famous and is best-known for its calming and relaxing effects.

The Rise of CBD

Gauging by the sudden popularity of CBD, one might wonder, where has this remarkable cannabis plant compound been hiding for so long?

Well, CBD was first isolated and studied in 1940 by an American chemist named Roger Adams. Afterwards, Dr Raphael Mechoulam, known as the “Father of Cannabis,” identified the three-dimensional chemical structure of CBD and made a breakthrough in 1978 when he showed cannabidiol could potentially treat epilepsy.

Unfortunately, Dr Mechoulam’s work was not recognized due to the negative stigma surrounding marijuana at the time. As a consequence of these absurd stigmas, the next three decades witnessed negligible research on the medical benefits of CBD and cannabis.

However, CBD´s destiny was altered in 2013 when a compelling story about a young girl named Charlotte Fiji appeared in a CNN documentary called “Weed.”

Charlotte was born with a rare form of chronic epilepsy known as Dravet Syndrome. By the age of five, she was having 300 seizures per week, and her parents realized that conventional medicine was unable to help. With few alternatives, they turned to cannabis. Almost instantly, Charlotte experienced a drastic reduction in epilepsy seizures after her first dose of CBD oil extracted from a high CBD cannabis strain.

This strain was named Charlotte’s Web This story attracted a lot of attention in the scientific community while also helping to change much of the public perception around cannabis.

Fast-forward to 2019 and the FDA have approved a CBD containing-drug called Epidolex in the US for treating epilepsy. Now, industry analysts project a $22 billion market of CBD products in the US by 2022. Indeed, in little under a decade, CBD has metamorphosized from an unknown compound of the cannabis plant into the most talked-about health supplement of 2019.

And people aren´t just talking about CBD. They are buying it, big time.

According to a report from the American Botanical Council, CBD became the best-selling herbal dietary supplement in 2018, overtaking turmeric as the number 1 selling supplement. Remarkable.

With more and more people learning about CBD, the rising potential of this cannabis supplement seems to be endless.

As mentioned earlier, with such a dramatic increase in popularity, CBD now comes in a variety of guises with CBD paste one of the more popular CBD products on the market today. But what exactly, is CBD paste?

What is CBD Paste?

CBD paste is prepared by mixing CBD extract with active ingredients like coconut oil, shea or cocoa butter to make a smooth, ingestible paste with a final CBD concentration of between 10-50%.

The CBD extract consists of high CBD concentration and low concentration of other non-intoxicating cannabinoids, terpenes, and other natural molecules.

It is acquired from the hemp plant by utilizing an extraction process called supercritical CO2 extraction. This gentle technique preserves a full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and macronutrients, which would otherwise be lost during a standard, high-temperature extraction process.

CO2 extraction methods are favoured by the major players in the CBD industry who use purely organic hemp for the production of high-quality CBD products. Extraction methods of CBD oils do vary, depending on the brand.

What is CBD Paste Used for?

The natural Ingredients of cannabidiol paste are thought to have a positive influence on general health and well being. Pure CBD paste contains terpenes such as myrcene, humulene, caryophyllene, and linalool, among others. These terpenes work in conjunction with CBD and other natural molecules to produce the “entourage effect,” which amplifies the therapeutic benefits of CBD.

According to a multitude of research, CBD may help in more than 50 medical conditions. It is widely used to reduce anxiety and stress. It may also relieve pain, cramps, muscle fatigue, and inflammation without producing any psychoactive effects.

How is CBD Paste Consumed?

CBD paste is dispensed with a syringe that typically comes with the CBD product. The desired serving size is placed under the tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing, preferably on an empty stomach to increase absorption.

The cannabidiol paste can be consumed in its natural form, but can also be used to prepare creative recipes of CBD edibles or topicals.

But what are the benefits of CBD paste?

CBD paste is exceptionally potent. The amount of CBD contained in a paste can be as much as ten times more than in CBD oil or CBD tinctures. Hence, it is helpful for users who require a potentially stronger effect.

CBD paste has the wholesome essence of the hemp plant due to the presence of other non-intoxicating cannabinoids, terpenes, and natural molecules. If you are kind of person who enjoys the taste of pure CBD, or like the idea of “raw and natural,” CBD paste is for you. However, If you don’t like the somewhat earthy taste of CBD, you might prefer CBD capsules, flavoured CBD oil or tinctures with varying levels of CBD concentration.

Be careful to check the CBD percentage to ensure that your product contains only organic hemp that has been tested for quality control. Reputable brands like Endoca and Phyto+ ensure that their CBD products have been sourced from only organic hemp. The end result is a pure and natural product containing only quality CBD.
